CCTV installation cost in India is rarely one number, and that is the first thing to sort out before you start collecting quotes. A 16-camera office fit-out in Gurgaon and a 16-camera plant in Pune can land 40% apart on identical hardware, because most of the money sits in things a price list never shows: cable routes, storage sizing, network readiness and the labour to commission it properly.

What actually drives CCTV installation cost in India

Cameras are the smallest surprise. A 2MP indoor dome sits around Rs 4,000-7,000; an 8MP varifocal bullet or a PTZ for a perimeter can run Rs 18,000-60,000. Brand matters less than lens choice and mounting height.

Recording and storage are where budgets move. Thirty days of retention on 16 cameras at 4MP, recording on motion with H.265, needs roughly 12-16 TB of surveillance-grade drives. Ask for the retention maths in writing — a vendor quoting half the storage is quoting a different system.

Passive infrastructure typically accounts for 20-30% of a commercial project: Cat6 runs, conduit, PoE switches, racks, UPS backup and earthing. On older buildings it can be more. Labour, configuration, camera angle tuning and handover documentation complete the picture, and an AMC usually adds 8-12% of hardware value each year.

Realistic ranges for commercial projects

For a small office of 8-16 cameras, a properly specified installed system generally falls between Rs 1.2 lakh and Rs 3 lakh. A 30-60 camera site with a central NVR, managed switches and remote viewing tends to land between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 12 lakh. At enterprise scale — 150 cameras and up, with a VMS, redundant storage and analytics — think in terms of Rs 20,000-45,000 per camera point fully delivered, with the higher end reflecting outdoor runs, hazardous areas or integration with access control and fire systems.

The line items cheap quotes leave out

Three omissions cause most cost overruns. The first is network readiness — surveillance traffic on a flat office LAN will degrade both; budget for VLANs and switch capacity as part of your IT infrastructure scope. The second is power protection, because a system without UPS backup stops recording exactly when you need it. The third is the difference between warranty and service: a one-year warranty covers a faulty camera, not a misaligned one after a false alarm at 2 a.m.

A useful test when comparing bids is to ask each vendor for the storage calculation, the cable schedule and the commissioning checklist. Vendors who cannot produce those three documents are estimating, not designing.
